Stephen hales from Missouri where he worked with The Opera Theatre of St. Louis, The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis and the Muny for five years before moving to New York to attend NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. He received his MFA in Scenic Design in 2004. While in New York he designed for: NYU, Alternative Theatre, Bicycle Productions, City Lights Youth Theatre. He also created windows for Ralph Lauren for two seasons and designed for Juneau Lyric Opera in Juneau, Alaska. Stephen moved to Los Angeles in 2005 where he started working in corporate theatre and tradeshow design for two and a half years before perusing theatre again. Since living in LA he has worked with many theaters in the Los Angeles area including: Ensemble Theatre Company Santa Barbara, La Mirada Performing Arts Center/McCoy Rigby Entertainment, The Colony Theatre, A Noise Within, The Theatre @ Boston Court, The Antaeus Company, International City Theatre, Laguna Playhouse, 3-D Theatricals, and many more. He has also spent multiple seasons designing for California Musical Theatre’s Music Circus working with directors like Glenn Casale and Stafford Arima. He has garnered many awards and nominations for his work including six Ovation Award nominations and was awarded The Bob Z Award for career achievement in set design by the Los Angeles Drama Critic Circle. Stephen currently lives happily in Hollywood working professionally in theatre. He is a proud member United Scenic Artists, Local 829.
